Om Sharon Cullinane

Sharon gained her Ph.D. in logistics from Plymouth University in 1987. Since then she has lectured, researched and published in the field of transport policy and the environment around the world. Her most recent post was as Senior Lecturer at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Prior to that she was employed at the University of Hong Kong, Oxford University, Sunderland University, the Egyptian National Institute of Transport, the Ecole Supérieur de Rennes in France and Plymouth University. Following some time out of mainstream academia, she took up her post in the University of Gothenburg in summer 2015.

Sharon’s main research interest is sustainable transport. She is interested in both freight and passenger transport and has carried out research and has many publications in both. She is particularly interested in the cross-over between passenger and freight transport which underpins some of her work in the sustainability of e-commerce. She played a key role in the Green Logistics project at Heriot-Watt University. She is currently working on reverse logistics associated with online shopping.

Sharon has taught on and developed many academic courses, primarily at the Masters level, including Green Logistics, transport policy, transport economics, logistics planning, transport planning, rural development, public transport systems, research methods. At Sunderland University, she developed the Professional Doctorate programme.

She is currently course leader of the Integrated Logistics course in the MSc in Logistics and Transport Management and is developing a course on City Logistics for the same Masters programme.

She has successfully supervised 10 PhDs candidates and over 150 MSc theses. She has also reviewed for many international academic journals.
